Crackin' Pecans and Making Bread

My favorite kind of day. Husband and me working around our urban homestead.

Welcome to what's on our table.

Our son-in-law, Marcus, gave us some pecans back in the fall. They have been in the fridge. past time to do something with them.

I learned to cover the cracker a little when I pushed down on the lever. Flying pecan shells are dangerous.

Made our bread for the week and some molasses sweetened granola. 

Borrowed the pecan cracker from my Mom and Dad. I remember sitting at the kitchen table with my Papa and Grandma helping pick the meat out of the shells. Challenge....How many "whole" halves can you get out of the shell?

Good pecans. Good memories. Tedious. I understand why nuts are a little expensive shelled and ready..
