Where the molasses on my biscuit came from....
Biscuit Recipe I have used for 34 years.The same recipe my grandma Sarah used. Instead of using lard, I use Spectrum organic vegetable shortening.
~Combine all the dry ingredients in a sifter.
~4 cups of flour~ combination of unbleached and whole wheat.
~2 tablespoons baking powder~
~dash salt~ I usually don't use salt. If I do it's only a dash, less than 1/2 teaspoon.
~Add 12 tablespoons of shortening. Mix together til crumbly.
~ 1 1/2 cups nonfat buttermilk~ Make a well in the center and pour in buttermilk.
~Mix. If too dry add just a few drops of buttermilk at the time. If too wet add a little flour. Knead/mix until a soft dough.
~Pinch off desired size for biscuits.
~ Biscuits best placed slightly touching and on a warm pan.
~Bake in hot preheated 450 degree oven. 12-15 minutes. ~Enjoy!
